Energy blog

We are learning about kinetic energy.

What did you do:

What me and my buddy did was we lined up different coins and put them in smallest to largest. We had to do this for a reason and that reason was to prove that kinetic energy spreads through each coin until it goes to the last coin.

What did you predict would happen:

We predicted that each coin would separate.

What did you observe:

We saw coins lined up from biggest to smallest and we saw that the kinetic energy separated the coins that were formed in a line.

How did the energy transfer in this experiment:

It transferred through each coin

How it transferred was that when we slid the biggest coin the kinetic force went through each coin until it hit the last ending coin.

What is energy:

At this point no one is sure what energy is all  we can do is  describe what it does.

Hypothesis:

My hypothesis was correct because I predicted that the coins would spread out since the kinetic energy transfers through each coin.

Book review term 1

Ingoa:Sweet valley
Katuhi:Francine Pascal
Momo:Graphic novel

I think that this book would be good for people who like graphic novels.

The stuff in the book is about twins. The twins have two different personalities.

I recommend this book to twins because this book can relate to them.

In my opinion this book is pretty good and it has some interesting stuff in it but it took a bit to figure out the plot twist.

I am convinced to read this book again because in my opinion I like this book.

One of the characters names is Jessica. She is outgoing, easy to talk to and Is apart of  this group of girls who runs the  whole school. While Jessica’s sister on the other hand is a nerd, she has 2 friends and she isn’t very outgoing. So in my perspective there personalities and everything else is different.

I think that for the book title it is okay.It pretty much relates to the twins being sweet so overall it is a pretty good title.

The story is based at a school  home.

I would recommend people to read this book because it is very interesting and bitter sweet.

If you also like to have pictures in your book then you would look at this one.

Perhaps you should try this book out and leave a review next.

What I have been learning in Social studies.

In social studies we have been learning about our pepehas. What I mean by this is that we gathered all of the information up and made some slide decks.

We have been learning about our old ancestors and where they lived and who were the important people of our tribe back then.

What we did first was that we made a slide deck with heaps of slides on it and we had put in our pepeha and what we did with this was that we researched some old people who were the chiefs of the tribe and we basically explained what they did and who they really were.

Why did you do this?

It’s important to Maori people that they know their ancestors and what they did back then and it is also good to gather information so when you’re older you can see all the work you did about your ancestors and who knows maybe you can be like them and start teaching about what happened back then.

This is basically just like learning about the war but instead of fighting people you’re ancestors would’ve traveled and they could relate to fighting people or fighting over land but that’s because back then Maori people had no rights. Not much people liked the Maori people nor knew about them. What people would do was look at a Maori person and be disgusted by them.

I’m going to tell you a little bit of what the Maori people do and how they survived in life.

Maori people do some stuff differently, back then they wore garments. They also made stuff out of bird feathers. The Māori people used feathers, particularly from birds like the kiwi and huia, they did this to make clocks and other stuff.

On the topic of talking about birds they had eaten and cooked birds up for survival.

One of the birds they enjoyed eating was kereru,What are kereru you might say, they are wood pigeons. They ate more birds but you can research more of them to know the knowledge of them.

I am going to add a link up to this blog post so you can see everything I have done and  all my hard work I put up with this slide. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1EfyrklF8i-n0lDkte4jIBEWRHGZu6CN4n8yC7uT3h6k/edit?usp=sharing

Drama

In drama we have been learning about emotions and have been doing scripts:

What I mean by the emotions part is that we have drawn a person on paper and have written heaps of emotions on it.

With the script it is about bullies and on the paper you have to explain their emotions, feelings and mostly just what’s about them.

Characters/explaining the script:in the script there are 4 people. The names of the people in the script are boot, stryke, grynd and Kuff .What I mean by bullies is that the characters have their own role and they are all mean. They like attention and they like picking on people.Together nothing is impossible.

Explain what and how you did in this script:For the role you had to get 4 people in one group, what you had to do was that you had to obviously read the script but you also had to add heaps of emotions and thoughts into it.At first it was hard  sorting everything  out, but  eventually everyone got the hang of iit.

In the script we also got to dress up and it was lots of fun trying on different costumes.

What emotions did you’re character feel?

For my character I picked stryke and in the play I had made him a boy and his emotions were frustrated and angry. The reason why I picked those emotions was just because it relates to me.How it relates to me is that  I have a bit of anger issues and so with this character I was just expressing myself.

Would you say you like drama?:

my honest answer,I would say I don’t mind drama I like dressing up and like playing different roles with all my friends. The only negative thing in drama is that when I’m tired I will be in a mood and it kills the mood being in drama because I wouldn’t want to be there but I still enjoy it even though I have some bad days.

Paper planes.

Hello, welcome to my science blog post.

We made modifications on paper planes to see how far they go and what you would need to make it go further.

If you have a normal paper plane it will travel distance but if you fold the end of a paper plane it travels longer and lasts longer in the air.

the more pointier the tip is the further the plane is going to go.When the tip is heavier it will last longer in the air and sometimes it will come back to you making a circle in the air.

Here are some bullet points that makes a paper plane go faster and further distance.

Distance:

  • Sharp edges
  • even folds
  • Pointy tip

Height advantage:

  • More weight
  • Heavier paper plane

If you need help on how to make a paper plane here are some instructions you can follow:

Colorful Bold Student PSA Infographic Walkthrough Template (1)

What makes a good paper plan compared to our old ones:

Here is the difference between our new planes compared to our old one.

Variable graph

As you can see when we made our first paper plane it travelled a smaller distance and shorter height while with our new plane it travelled far and travelled longer.

Bullet points explaining what we learnt:

1.Aerodynamics

2.Weight

3.Surface area

4.Thrust

Our new paper plane looks like this because we had thought of doing a sharper tip,the reason behind why we thought this was because when we tried making our first paper plane it had a short tip and didn’t travel that far but when we made a sharper tip it travelled way longer and flew, then our old ones.

Hypothesis: If I do sharper ends on the plane it will go further and if I do heavier ends it will last longer in the air.

My hypothesis was correct because our new plane travels further in distance and height than our old one.

Water drops

introduction-We are investigating how many drops it takes to make a coin  overflow.

Soap disturbs the water and it has a lower surface tension so if you jump in a  pool full of soap it won’t hurt at much but if you jump in with salt then it would hurt more because it is a higher surface tension.  If you belly flop into vinegar it won’t hurt as much as if you belly flop into water but it will sting because its vinegar and if you stay in it for too long you will dissolve so don’t try at home.

Conclusion-you can fit more drops of  vinegar on a coin the A,B,D and water.

Surface tension-

Surface tension is what holds the water on the coin and there is surface tension  on the top of the water so when you belly flop into the water and when it makes a big splash it hurts the surface tension, but if you dive in hands first you are pushing the tension apart and it makes the water softer and easier to access. When you add soap to water it breaks up the surface tension.
